Software Patents

Has spoke out in strong terms against the software patent directive. Debate following the Commission-statement on a "European Patent-Litigation Agreement" (EPLA)

Last year, parliament rejected an attempt to impose patents on software, because, like books and all written materials, software is ideas in symbolic form and should continue to be subject only to copyright.
Parliament was persuaded also that patenting software would stifle innovation, cripple small-business and harm the economy; and yet, this year, the Commission returns with an even more sweeping proposal, which would permit software to be patented.

Nevertheless, we should again say "no", and ask the Commissioners what part of "no" they fail to understand.
