Stand.org.uk

STAND (STAND.org.uk) was a UK campaign established in 1998 to oppose the UK government's crypto regulation proposals (which later emerged as the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000). It revived in 2003 as a campaign against the government's ID Card proposals, as part of the NO2ID campaign, until February 2005.

As part of its campaign it developed an email-to-fax gateway system to allow net users to contact MPs that had not yet adopted email. In December 2000 this was launched as a stand-alone service "FaxYourMP". In 2003 the tools developed for the campaign were taken on by the newly created mySociety.
