Protection of Freedoms Act 2012

Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Among others: orders the destruction of biometric data (inc DNA and fingerprints) taken by police for suspects that have been acquitted or not charged; amends Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, extends Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Section 34 establishes the role of the Surveillance Camera Commissioner and Section 20 the Commissioner for the Retention and Use of Biometric Material.
