Payment Services Directive

The Payment Services Directive is a set of laws aimed at harmonising payments across Europe. In other words it seeks to establish the legal foundation for an EU-wide single market for payments[1]

As shopping outlets and payment options expand and diversify, the Directive aims to increase competition by allowing businesses that aren't banks to facilitate payments.

The Directive thus provides the rules and regulations that potential organisations must conform with when providing the service.[2]
