HM Revenue and Customs

HM Revenue and Customs is a non-ministerial department responsible for collecting taxes, paying some forms of government support and the administration of other regulatory regimes (such as minimum wage).

Systems safety

According to a question in the House of Lords, the department's online systems have never been breached. In instances of identity theft, the office works with customers whose VAT accounts have been tampered, while websites identified as threats are removed within seven and a half hours[1].
