European Broadcasting Union (EBU)

Key Personnel

  • President: Jean-Paul Philippot (RTBF/Belgium)
  • Vice-President: Claudio Cappon
  • Director General: Ingrid Delterne

Introduction

The European Broadcasting Union represents the interests of public service broadcasters. They are interested in promoting cooperation between broadcasters and facilitating the exchange of audiovisual content. They are also interested in raising the interests of national broadcasters before the relevant decision-makers.

Position

The EBU are interested in the modernisation of copyright law, and they seek to strike a balance between user rights and the ‘protective’ rights of rightsholders.

They are important as they are the largest association of national broadcasters in the world, and they represent media interests but still demonstrate concern for user rights.

Allies

Their allies include the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA); the International Federation of Film Distributors Associations (FIAD); the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF); the Independent Film and Television Alliance (IFTA) and the International Video Federation (IVF).
