Digital Economy Bill protest flyer design

This text is my proposal for a flyer to support a flash-mob protest.

If anyone reading this is a graphic designer who fancies mocking up some A5 versions - please do! If you know someone who might be able to help with the design, please contact me. --Richard 18:04, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

The Government plans to kill off public wifi, block websites and disconnect families & businesses from the Internet.

Act now - the Digital Economy Bill could become law *before* the General Election!

"The Government is proposing that in dealing with suspected copyright infringement (or indeed [...] any particular type of internet use) ordinary criminal or civil procedures will be bypassed replaced instead with an administrative process laden with executive involvement and devoid in the first instance of due process safeguards.

-- Liberty on disconnection without trial.

"As [the Digital Economy Bill] stands many small businesses providing wi-fi networks will be liable for the infringing activities of their customers. This would mean that a café whose customer(s) downloaded copyright material illicitly may be liable for civil copyright infringement proceedings and fines, or disconnection and a period of loss of its wi-fi service."

-- The Federation of Small Businesses on the threat to public Wi-Fi.

"Put simply, blocking access as envisaged by this [bill] would widely disrupt the Internet in the UK and elsewhere, threatening freedom of speech and the open Internet, without reducing copyright infringement as intended."

-- Letter to the FT on Website blocking, signed by Stephen Fry, Tom Watson MP (former Minister for Digital Britain) and 17 others.
