Christopher Chope, Conservative MP for Christchurch, Vice Chairman of the Human Rights and Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
Career
Member of Parliament for Christchurch (since 1997) and previously Southampton (1983-1992). He was elected Member of Parliament for Christchurch in May 1997. He was appointed Frontbench Spokesman for Environment, Transport and the Regions and Vice-Chairman of the Party with responsibility for Local Government. In June 1998, he was appointed Opposition Frontbench Spokesman for Social Security. In September 2001, he was appointed as an Opposition Frontbench Spokesman for the Treasury. In June 2002, he was appointed as Shadow Minister of State for Transport. From November 2003 to May 2005, he served as a Shadow Minister for Environment & Transport
Prior Career
Following the loss of Southampton Itchen in 1992 he worked for Ernst & Young as a consultant. He also served on the Health & Safety Commission and the Local Government Commission for England and was a member of the DTI De-Regulation Task Force on Transport and Communications.

Has lamented “this ghastly internet world”. [1] He is Vice President of the Conservative Way Forward, a Thatcherite group. [2] He has successfully campaigned against the loss of Green Belt, the waste treatment plants in Ferndown and Hurn, and against the proposed concert venue in Ringwood Forest. He is currently campaigning for the future of Christchurch Hospital.
