Network filtering
In 2017 Akamai acquired Nominum, a US-based company originally founded in 1999 to develop the BIND name server and DHCP server for the Internet Software Consortium. Nominum provided site categorisation services to BT Group for their DNS-based parental controls feature. (See Nominum site details) It's possible that BT is the "European converged network operator" mentioned in an Akamai case study.
Commercial network filters are provided under its Akamai SPS (Security and Personalization Services) offering, consumer filter is Akamai Name Controls
