Surveillance oversight

As shadow home office minister, called for reform of the Intelligence and Security Committee.[1]

On 6 Jan 2015, proposed amendment to Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill 2015 clarifying restriction to necessary identification by IP address. [2]. Earlier had published article in Huffington Post outlining Labour concerns over DRIPA.[3]

As shadow home office minister, responded to parliamentary presentation by James Brokenshire MP on 4 March 2015 of two Codes of Practice Orders (Retention of Communications Data 2015 and Acquisition and Disclosure of Communications Data Order 2015) agreeing with additional safeguards, but raising process points about lack of publication of consultation responses and impact assessments, and asking for clarity in CoP about social media and email and stats about notices.
